So it’s no secret how much I LOVE self-care, and I’ll shout it’s benefits from the roof-tops, but I thought I’d compile a list of my most favourite “Me-Time” indulgances.
- No Indulgence list is complete without a bath, am I riiiiiight? Be it a 10 minute bath, or an hours long soak, this simple activitity is one of my most favourites. If I’m going for a full on pamper, I’ll light my candles, grab my body and foot brush shut the door and just switch off from the rest of the world. My bath-time essentials vary depending what I’m needing for my body – if I’m feeling really indulgent then I’ll use my Body Smooth exfoliating polish from Tropic (more info can be found HERE), or some Epsom Bath Salts / Himalayan Bath Salts. If it’s close to my “calendar” time I will sway towards a home-made bath melt, which soothes my scenses and helps calm verious symptoms. I’ll be typing out a blog about them in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for that. If time is a factor, I’ll just run a quick bath, add in some salt and practice my deep breathing until my timer goes off.
- Sit and have a mint tea.
Now this might seem like an odd one, as I’m sure many of you enjoy a cuppa, but how many of you allow yourself to switch off whilst drinking it? Or how many of you drink a cuppa whilst doing something else, like work, or organise bills etc? REALLY switching off is what makes this my indulgence – I’ll sit either snuggled on the sofa or out in the sunshine and drink a mildy warm mug of Mint green tea and just switch off for 20 minutes by either focusing on deep breathing, the taste of my tea or the sounds of the birds in the trees. Absolute bliss! I’m really not a tea kind of person (normal, fruit, or any other kids I’d tried), so when I started my Transform25 plan with Natasha, and I recieved a box in my kit, I really wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. - Do some Yoga.
I’m not energetic in any way, shape or form, but part of the Transform25 plan is the daily exersices. Now, I’m sure those exersices are great, but I really couldn’t manage them at all lol. The only one I found I was able to do (and ENJOYED doing) was yoga. I loved it and was doing it every morning on the days Joe was out, or in the evenings when he’d finally gone to bed. It really helped not only get my body inches in check, but also helped my mind switch off from all the stresses that was happening lately. Due to my anxiety I was only using youtube clips to copy, which were quite easy, and obviously you can tweek them to go at your own pase (ie, stop after 10 minutes if you’re exhausted lol). - Book myself in for acupuncture / massage / crystal healing.
I cannot tell you the amount of difference having acupuncture does to my outlook and wellbeing, and having a massage is the icing on the cake. I’ve been having acupucture and crystal healing appointments every week for about 4 years now, to help with anxiety, depression, fibromialgia, infertility, acne, sleep and energy issues…. all sorts…. and it’s amazing how much it can improve what’s going on in your life! If you’ve not tried acupuncture yet, then I highly recommend doing so – it really doesn’t hurt (apart from if someone puts a pin in THAT area of the foot – not sure what part it’s called, but if you’ve had it before you’ll know exactly what one I’m talking about lol) and can help treat all sorts of problems. If you’re anywhere near the Liverpool area I highly recommend giving Sarah at Aquarius Therapies a message on Facebook – she’s an absolute angel and I’d have never got through my PND and other issues without her. She offers other therapies as well, not just acupunture – she’s amazing at Reiki and Reflexology…. and great with brows too 😉 - Read a book.
Now, I confess to not picking up a book in recent years that wasn’t based around business or parenting, but recently I’ve been making myself re-read some of the fiction that’s been gathering dust on my bookshelf for the last 7 years, and it’s actually been really enjoyable! Even if I can only read a couple of pages at a time, I’m making sure I slot it into my day somehow. It’s been really nice to have some sort of escape from the world in the form of a book, rather than just plonking myself down in front of the TV to catch up on my soaps. It’s really picking at my imagination again, and it’s been fun! We’ve tweeked the Book Nook Group on Facebook to cover all kinds of books, not just ones for kids, so if you fancy having a natter with a bunch of crazy book lovers, then please feel free to join us HERE.
So that’s it – my 5 favourite QUICK me-time indulgences. Obviouslty I have many more, but I thought I’d share the quick and easy ones with you.
